Sheephaven SAC Activities & Try Dive

Sheephaven SAC got the very best out of last weekend’s diving, despite the northerly gale that had sheephavenblown through during the mid-week. First up it was the Saturday morning club dive from Downings, where the club members were in the water at Dunloan Rock, led by Kevin Boylan in a two stick boat dive departing from Mevagh slipway.

Sunday morning saw the club members meeting at PortnaBlagh pier where there were a number of in-water activities to be conducted. The majority of those attending enjoyed a snorkel in calm but slightly drizzly weather conditions, with little or no swell. While in keeping with last week and Saturday some of the snorkelers also took the opportunity on Sunday morning to successfully conduct their Water Fitness Test for the 2014 diving season.

It is also the club policy that very PortnaBlagh snorkel should finish up with a cup of tea or indeed for some their breakfast in Dunfanaghy, where the club members can get a chance to relax and enjoy the craic, a great way to finish out a Sunday morning.

Finally this Thursday evening the 30th November is the 2014 Sheephaven Try-A-Dive and this year it is to be held in the Mevagh Dive Centre, Carrigart. Club Training Officer Joe Neely is running the event and to book a place he can be contacted on 086 1270897. This is a wonderful opportunity for any prospective diver to check out if scuba diving is a sport for them in a safe and warm environment and under the watchful eye of qualified instructors.

The evening simply involves bringing your own swim gear and a T-shirt, getting a mask, set of fins and bottle strapped on by the club members in attendance and after a short introduction you will be escorted underwater from one end of the pool to the other. It is from there the adventure for many of us had begun and we have never looked back since. So do yourself a favour and give it a go, it could be a truly life changing experience.
