Leitrim Sub Aqua Club are delighted to have received a significant cheque for €336 from the Manager of Carrick-on-Shannon Tesco John Dowling, as part of their Blue Tokens for Clubs campaign.

Leitrim SAC Chairman Gerry Gilroy wishes to express his sincere thanks to all the customers of Carrick-on-Shannon Tesco who supported the community initiative and in doing so allowed Tesco to donate the essential funding to their Search and Recovery Unit.

The money will go a long way to the upkeep and servicing of their equipment, as they have to provide their own dive kit, boats and compressors when they are involved in Search and Recovery call-out in their locality.

Underwater Search and Recovery by recreational divers is organised in Ireland under the auspices of the Irish Underwater Council through a Service Level Agreement with the Irish Coastguard, who will be the State Agency first tasked in the event of a water based incident.

In the event that the Civil powers will need assistance volunteer divers clubs such as Leitrim SAC will respond with their qualified divers in accordance with agreed protocols of training and fitness.

The community support demonstrated by the Tesco Blue Token campaign is a fitting tribute to the dedication and commitment of these volunteers, who are available to help return a loved one to their families in the time of need.
