Mullingar Sub Aqua

Founded in 1964 Mullingar SAC is one of the longest established scuba diving clubs in the country. We are affiliated to Diving Ireland, who are in turn affiliated to CMAS CMAS (Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques)

We provide training for new divers that typically starts in January for each calendar year. Initial training is a combination of lectures and swimming pool practice to develop skills required to move to open water. We teach from beginner all the way to instructor level.

We are lucky being based in the ‘Lake County’ that we have lots of dive sites on our doorstep with weekly pleasure and training dives taking place in Lough Owel from April to October.

During the summer months we typically dive on the west coast from Donegal to Kerry, depending on the weather. Mullaghmore in Co. Sligo would be our closet sea dive on the west coast and is easily doable on a day trip with our own rib.

The club also has a dedicated Search and Recovery unit within the club and its members are specially trained for this type of diving and is an important part of the Mullingar community and surrounds.

Our favourite or top dive sites are:

Lough Owel, Co. Westmeath

Teelin, Co. Donegal

Lacken/Ballycastle, Co. Mayo

Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo

Kilkee, Co. Clare
