This weekend, Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th August is the Dublin Regional Dive Rally. Though primarily based in the Coal Harbour Dun Laoghaire, this year we will also have dive boats operating from Howth to help increase the variety and access to dive sites.
The theme of the weekend is ‘Dive Something Different’. To that end we have licences for all the accessible wrecks around the bay. This provides a range of experiences from the Leinster – 5 nautical miles beyond the Kish lighthouse in 32 meters – to the Bolivar in the south of the bay in 15 meters. There will of course be scenic diving on the Muglins, Dalkey island and surrounding areas. A dedicated photography dive for those of us forsaken by our buddies. |
Clubs from North and South Dublin are attending so there will be plenty of boats and spaces for all. As well as diving something different this is a great opportunity to also dive with someone different. We are encouraging people to take the chance to network and not just dive with their own club boat.
Registration and Events:
Registration will be from 5.30pm on Friday and 8.30am Saturday at the Information Centre in the Coal harbour. There will be compressors on site provided by the clubs– you will be asked to give a donation as everything collected after basic costs will go towards the RNLI. Don’t forget to bring a few Euro to cover petrol costs if you are a guest on a boat as well.
Events over the weekend include a BBQ on the Saturday 5.00 – 7.30pm at the Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club. Tickets are €10 and available at information tent or on the door of DMYC. There will be a drop in photography advice centre and workshop on Saturday and Sunday at the DMYC. There are also photography show & tell sessions before the Saturday BBQ and on Sunday afternoon. The best of the ‘amateur’ snaps will be featured in an upcoming edition of Sub Sea. There is also a ‘Find a Lucky Horseshoe Competition’. Gold and silver horseshoes will be left prominently at the dive sites; find one and win a prize. Thanks to Flagship Scuba, Lambay Diving and Oceandivers for supporting us in this.
