Garda Sub Aqua

The Garda Sub Aqua Club (GSAC) has been involved in diving for over 50 years, starting from humble beginnings in 1964 when members from the Garda Swimming and Lifesaving Club started to experiment with fins, masks and snorkels.  The first trip away involved 11 members travelling to Achill Island to dive the Aghia Eirini a 4330 ton steamer that ran aground in 1939.

Our membership today is made up people from all different backgrounds who come together for the enjoyment of diving in Ireland. Membership is open to both civilian and Gardai.  Over the years our members have gone on to work as professional divers nationally.

We have a two RIB’s equipped with GPS units, depth sounders, VHF radios and oxygen equipment.  The club has a portable compressor for trips away and a permanent compressor in our Clubhouse in Westmanstown.

Throughout the winter months members keep active through 16 weeks of pool training in the National Aquatic Centre in Blanchardstown and snorkelling in Sandycove. Between March and October we dive up to three times a week from Dun Laoghaire and sites around Dublin and undertake numerous weekend and weeklong trips to a wide variety of locations around the Irish coast. Irish waters offer some of the best diving experiences in northern Europe. Foreign Club holidays are also organised with past trips including Mexico, Cuba, Egypt and Croatia.
