On Saturday 29th of October, the NUIG/GMIT Sub Aqua Club held their 50th Anniversary Ball in the Galway Bay hotel. Semi drys and dry suits were exchanged for tuxedos and ball gowns for the occasion. The night was complete with dinner and dancing, with live music by the Converse Allstars. Guest speakers such as Professor Paul Ryan, CFT President Richard Thorn and the current club Diving Officer and Captain, Cian Mc Fadden and Christie O’Toole shared their memories and appreciation for the club. There were a selection of wonderful prizes available for the raffle on the night: two days diving and accommodation for two people in Antrim, thanks to Aquaholics; a 10 litre steel cylinder and underwater kinetics C4 dive torch provided by Lambay Diving Services; a print of a Malin Head wreck from Barry McGill of Indepth Technical Diving; Fourth Element Arctic Thermals with Divelife logo, courtesy of Fourth Element and Divelife; a Pathfinder watch worth €300 donated by Richard Quinn Jewelers; CFT provided an official jacket worth €45; other prizes were sponsored by Flagship Scuba, Portroe Quarry Dive Centre and many more. A great night was had by all and here’s to the next fifty years!
